The Faith to Action Initiative is excited to announce the release of new resources on strategies for strengthening family care. A Continuum of Care for Orphans and Vulnerable Children explains that the best way to serve vulnerable children is to strengthen the capacity of families to care for them. Family-strengthening strategies and services help address many of the root causes of separation from family care. To better understand and engage this topic, the following resources are now available for your use:

Webinar 3: Strategies for Strengthening Family Care is the third in a three-part series providing an introduction to and overview of the need for family-based care. This webinar presents key strategies for expanding the capacity of families to care for orphans and vulnerable children. Through conversations with HelpKids Centre and Bright Hope, this webinar introduces the importance of family-strengthening strategies including: livelihood support, daycare support, emotional and spiritual support and parental training that ease the burden of caregivers. The audio version of this webinar is also available as a podcast here.

Additional podcasts provide a deeper dive on strategies for strengthening family care. These additional podcasts feature various organizations and groups and how they implement family-strengthening across the globe. First introduced in Webinar and Podcast 3, A Conversation with HelpKids Centre on Strategies for Strengthening Family Care provides a deeper dive on key strategies that support and expand the capacity of families to care for orphans and vulnerable children. Some of these strategies discussed by HelpKids and ACCI include: daycare support, emotional and spiritual support, and parental training. Also introduced in Webinar 3 and Podcast 3, Bright Hope takes a deeper dive on strengthening families through livelihoods support in A Conversation with Bright Hope on Strategies for Strengthening Family Care. The podcasts explains how micro-loans, micro-savings groups, and agricultural support help strengthen families and prevent the placement of children into orphanages. Additional podcasts on strengthening family care will be released in 2016.
