The Journeys of Faith Study Series provides the tools, links to online resources, and information needed to engage participants through discussion, readings, videos, group activities, and prayer. Here’s an overview of each session:

Session 1: Who are Orphans and Vulnerable Children?

This session serves as an introduction to orphans and vulnerable children, and why Christians are called to engage and respond. Participants will discuss the image of orphans as well as an overview on the reality of the orphan plight globally. This session also explores what Scripture says about orphans, and sets the stage for both personal connection and collective support around understanding and responding to orphans. Session 2: Understanding Separation from Family Care and the Impact of Poverty

This session explores how and why children are separated from family care, with an extensive look at the complexities and the role of poverty. Impact on child development, social relationships and increased risk for later in life are covered as well. F2A’s Guiding Principles are introduced and discussed. Download this Session (PDF)

Session 3: Key Strategies for Strengthening Families and Community-Based Care, Part I

Using F2A’s Guiding Principles, this session explains F2A’s 12 strategies for strengthening families and community-based care. Participants will identify and discuss how strategies are upheld and implemented in two stories of partnership from Journeys of Faith. Download this Session (PDF)

Session 4: Key Strategies for Strengthening Families and Community-Based Care, Part 2

As a continuation of deepening understanding of F2A key strategies, this session reviews key strategies and allows participants to identify and discuss how strategies are upheld and implemented in three additional stories of partnership from Journeys of Faith. Download this Session (PDF)

Session 5: Short-Term Missions

This session covers guiding principles of short-term missions and explores the importance of helping without hurting in the context of working with vulnerable children. Participants will review previous sessions and reflect on the implications of their content as it relates to short-term missions impact, purpose, and principles. Download this Session (PDF)

Session 6: Identifying Your Next Steps

This session introduces both practical ways of responsible engagement in orphan care as well as principles of partnership from Journeys of Faith. Participants will develop personal and collective action plans for next steps (e.g., for their church, group, or school). Download this Session (PDF)
