How Was the Tool Kit Developed?

The Faith to Action Initiative convened a group of advisors (the Better Practice Task Force) and sought recommendations and input from more than 50 practitioners and organizations from around the world currently engaged in transitioning care and serving the needs of orphans and vulnerable children. Hundreds of tools and resources were recommended to us through this process, and out of these, over 200 were selected to be included in the Tool Kit.

The Tool Kit was written by Beth Bradford of Maestral International LLC, and Kerry Olson, Sarah Gesiriech, and Daphne Fowler of the Faith to Action Initiative. The Better Practice Task Force is chaired by the Faith to Action Initiative and includes representatives from the following organizations: ACCI Relief, Better Care Network, Catholic Relief Services, Christian Alliance for Orphans, Firelight Foundation, GHR Foundation, Lumos, Maestral International LLC, USAID/DCOF, and World Vision International.

A cohort of practitioners engaged in transitioning from residential to family care participated in a group process to share their feedback to help guide the content. A special thank you to Philip Barker of Heaven’s Family, Tara Garcia of Identity Mission, Katie Januario of Catholic Relief Services, Laura Weaver of East West Ministries, and Isaac Wilke of Divinus Ministries.
