In 2006, the Better Care Network’s Faith-Based Organization Outreach Committee, composed of faith-based individuals representing the Better Care Network, Family Health International, Firelight Foundation, Save Africa’s Children, and World Vision International, was formed in response to the growing number of churches and Christians funding orphanages in Sub-Saharan Africa.

They recognized the potential influence the faith community held to positively impact care and protection of children without parental care around the world and sought to provide resources to guide better practices. In 2008, the name was changed to the Faith to Action Initiative and became an independent coalition with the goal of enhancing communication, access to information, and improved practice among the U.S. Christians on behalf of orphaned and vulnerable children in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2010, Faith to Action expanded its scope to a global focus following the devastating effects of the earthquake in Haiti on vulnerable families and children.

Today, Faith to Action functions uniquely, as we are a coalition of organizations who come together to inform Christians about family care and serve the broader family care movement. We increase knowledge, build capacity, and mobilize others to support quality programming for the care and protection of orphaned and vulnerable children. Our work is to improve the orphan care sector and increase support for family care programming around the world. Faith to Action has engaged thousands of Christian organizations in the U.S. and around the world to promote family care.
